Senior Product Manager, Textbooks

In 2010 Amazon launched textbook trade-in in the US. This program enables customers to receive an Amazon gift card in exchange for their used textbooks. Since launch, the program has grown exponentially, and has also expanded to other locals (Germany, France, and the United Kingdom).

Our team offers great opportunities for results-oriented individuals who know how to identify market needs and opportunities, define product objectives and plans, are focused on excellent customer experiences, and are experienced in creating and driving functional specifications through the development process. This is your opportunity to make a big impact on our trade-in customers, bidders, and processes on a global scale.

The trade-in product manager will help identify and define areas of product strategy and the category product roadmap. You will create and deliver product requirements, and drive execution of specific programs and projects to completion against project plans based on the product roadmap. You will collaborate with all relevant engineering teams, category, international and retail business customers to ensure that trade-in business goals are achieved. You will help establish product roadmaps and prioritize feature lists, taking into account core product architecture, new products and features, and product performance/availability while continually refining them with direct input from other product managers, relevant Amazon groups and customers, large and small.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and drive the textbook trade-in programs. Areas of focus will include the customer experience to drive trade-in volume. Will also need to define rules of engagement w/ key retail stakeholders.
  • Participate in designing and creating requirements for the trade-in roadmap.
  • Participate in the creation of market and competitive analysis and operational planning
  • Drive the product development lifecycle for your projects acting as the business representative
  • Manage trade-in marketing/merchandising activities to ensure a superior trade-in customer experience
  • May manage a direct report who is responsible for day-day execution of trade-in



Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be an analytically strong product thinker with the ability to anticipate the needs of the customer. He will have the ability to understand customer and organizational requests and, based upon them, influence requirements for elegant solutions that serve the needs of multiple constituencies simultaneously. This product manager will show the potential to think beyond product development and understand not only the customer needs but also the impacts of design and architecture tradeoffs on success of customer self service, customer support and technical operations. A strong candidate will also possess solid technical aptitude that enables him/her to interact easily with software and web. He or she will be able to keep their composure in a fast moving, dynamic environment. The candidate will have management experience to assist with coaching and development of team members. MBA preferred, or BS with 5+ years of relevant experience.

• 5+ years in product management, sales and/or marketing is required
• Bachelor's degree is required

 

  • Excellent understanding of marketing strategies, especially digital and retail
  • Direct experience with online retail and defining and delivering features
  • History of teamwork and willingness to roll up one's sleeves to get the job done
  • Ability to define projects for developers, and work closely with technical teams
  • Ability to think strategically and execute methodically
  • Ability to interpret data and make business recommendations
  • Superior verbal and written communications skills
  • MBA preferred
