Senior Accountant - Financial Reporting

Under general supervision, is a key individual contributor responsible for preparing a variety of financial statements for internal and external use.

Key Responsibilities:

Relying on experience and judgment, the Senior Accountant is responsible for accomplishing the following assignments.  These assignments are broad in nature and work can be difficult.

Analyze financial data, ensuring that all reporting is in compliance with SEC, GAAP, and Statutory reporting guidelines.

• Perform monthly financial close to general ledger for assigned companies.
• Prepare monthly reconciliation of various general ledger accounts, including bank reconciliation.
• Proactively detect, research and resolve reconciliation items.
• Analyze and document variances in account balances between periods.
• Review and approve various schedules required for internal and external reporting, both on a GAAP basis and as required by Statutory Accounting Principles.
• Prepare quarterly and annual filings.
• Coordinate and participate in completing special projects as needed.
• Maintain knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Statutory Accounting Principles, SEC requirements and other relevant accounting regulations.
• Research accounting rules and regulations and make recommendations regarding company policy.
• Interact with subsidiaries and other corporate departments to compile information for consolidated reporting.
• Interact with internal and external auditors as necessary to complete audits.

 Planning

• Develop work plans, establish timelines, and set goals for assigned work.
• Meet commitments on deadlines.
  Communication
• Review activities, results, and recommendations with management and clients as appropriate.

Cost Management

• Drive improvement in existing business processes.
• Perform work thoroughly in a cost efficient manner and at a high productivity level.

Business Controls and Policies

• Comply with all corporate policies and procedures.
• Report any breakdown in controls to management.
• Conduct all activities in a safe manner.

People Management

• No people management responsibility but may provide guidance to less experienced employees

Position Knowledge, Skills, and Requirements:

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or a related field or the equivalent education and/or experience
  Experience
• Minimum of five years of relevant and progressive professional experience
• Minimum of three years of insurance industry financial reporting experience
• Solid understanding of GAAP and Statutory Accounting

 Other

• Possess and have ability to apply broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills with an emphasis on confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy
• Exceptional organizational and analytical skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Knowledgeable of industry changes, legal updates and technical developments related to applicable area of the Company’s business to proactively respond to changing business environment
• Advanced proficiency and experience using Microsoft Office Package, with exposure to general ledge systems is required. TCP software experience highly preferred.
