Pricing Sr. Analyst (Corp.)

Job Summary

The Pricing Senior Analyst is responsible for supporting the sales force by both retaining and growing volume and revenue for UPS. He/She provides competitive rates and effective pricing strategies that both maximize profitability and favorably position UPS in the marketplace. The Pricing Senior Analyst reports to the manager. 

Job Duties / Responsibilities and Skills

Evaluates and Analyzes Pricing Requests 

  • Evaluates Price Quota Requests (PQRs) from the field for accuracy, completeness, and validity to ensure all information is provided to fulfill the pricing request.
  • Runs queries using various database tools to understand customers’ current contracts, volume, and rates to determine pricing necessary to win or retain business and what value proposition UPS can provide.
  • Collaborates with Sales and Pricing personnel as needed to gather all relevant data not included in the PQRs.
  • Enters PQRs into the pricing database to record the start of work.
  • Evaluates and analyzes customers’ shipping requests to gain a comprehensive understanding of customers’ needs and recommend UPS services.

Develops Pricing Strategies and Discounts 

  • Evaluates competitive situations, current market conditions, and profitability of accounts to formulate sales/pricing strategies.
  • Develops appropriate sales/pricing strategies to position UPS effectively and appropriately in relation to the competition and marketplace while taking profitability and contribution into consideration.
  • Develops Price Quote Authorizations (PQAs) to create official working documents for Pricing and Sales outlining the discount program.
  • Completes ad hoc analyses for upper management to provide information on financial impacts of different pricing scenarios (e.g., impacts of competitor vs. UPS offers, impacts of weight, impacts of rate increases, etc.).

Implements Accepted Contracts and Addendums 

  • Completes bid acceptance checklists of contracts or addendums from the Strategic Account Manager in addition to bid response forms to ensure the Administration group will accurately implement contracts.
  • Submits completed bid acceptance checklists, bid response forms, signed copies of contracts or addendums, bid worksheets, and cost summaries to the Administration group to begin implementation.
  • Responds to administrative assistant’s questions regarding implementation of contracts to ensure there are no delays in implementing by the agreed upon date.
  • Audits contracts or addendums for accuracy after acceptance and implementation by the Administration group to ensure correct discounts have been implemented and that no rebates occur.

Responds to Internal and External Inquiries and Provides Training 

  • Responds to internal and external requests to provide pricing solutions and account strategies.
  • Meets with the Analyst group and Senior Analyst to conduct internal training.
  • Participates in formal training classes to gain knowledge and increase skill sets.
  • Leads training sessions or meetings with peers to assume a leadership role and to use as a career development tool.

Generates Contracts and Addendums 

  • Sends contracts to Legal for review when required to evaluate any customized contract language requested by customers.
  • Audits contracts or addendums for accuracy and completeness before they are sent to the field to ensure contracts and addendums are correct and the proper discounts are offered.
  • Provides contracts to the Strategic Account Manager and Director of Strategic Accounts to present to customers for signing and execution.
  • Revises contract language and structure as necessary to gain agreement between UPS and customers.
