Position Description

TheAmerican Cancer Societyis seeking aPlanning and Promotions Internto assist in the planning and preparation for our Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event in Glen Allen, VA.


Those with areas of study in Business, Marketing/Promotions, Communications, Organizational Management and Nonprofit Management will find this assignment challenging and rewarding. The Intern will be responsible for assisting our Strides team in reaching out to the community to promote the event and assist in managing the logistics of the event.

**We have 2 positions available, assignment is from June- September / 20 hours per week. This is an UNPAID internship**

-Assist with Kickoff and Walk logistics which may include ordering supplies, securing vendors, decorating and providing onsite support on the day of the event.
-Make contacts and market event at schools, community and faith based organizations for successful and ongoing event management.
-Assist in the recruitment and training of volunteers in support of fundraising activities.
-Track and monitor teams registering online and create a reporting and assignment process.
-Manage the distribution of all team leader kit requests and mail and update the database.
-Research and contact businesses regarding placement of Event Posters and POP distribution. Create and maintain a tracking system for placement.
-Assist in checking Strides email and hotline and handling calls as appropriate.
-Assist in securing entertainment and supplying procurement for the breakfast and walk. -Send confirmations.
-Assist with Strides Database and website maintenance.
-Performs other related duties as assigned
Position Requirements

This intern will gain thorough knowledge of the American Cancer Society's efforts in volunteer involvement and event planning.

. Interns must be full-time undergraduate or graduate college students in good academic standing.
. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
. Strong customer service skills
. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
. Organizational Skills
. Initiative and ability to work independently
