The Director of communications, in cooperation with senior staff, sets and guides the strategy for all communications, website and public relations messages and collateral to consistently articulate the mission of the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce and the Navigating from Good to Great Foundation. The Director shall develop, direct and supervise a comprehensive communications plan to create, enhance, and support a positive and consistent image, brand and message for the Chamber and the Foundation. Key Responsibilities: * Approve, create and/or supervise all forms of communication created by and emanating from the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce. * Develop, manage and implement the Chambers overall communication strategic plan. * Monitor the effectiveness of the Chambers communications plan and review and update as required * Prepare, support and monitor an annual budget for communications and public relations activities. * Coordinate web page maintenance, ensure that new and consistent information is posted regularly. * Lead the development of online content that engages current and prospective members and leads to measurable action. * Build and maintain good working relationships with news media locally and statewide. * Coordinate chambers Community Leadership Awards program. * Coordinate a Chambers Speakers Bureau. * Advise and assist team members with their communications objectives with regard to specific programs, issues of concern and events. * Serve as staff liaison to the Chamber communications and public relations committee. * Continually review and develop new ways to improve and enhance external communications. * Serve as supervisor for all photography for organizational events and programs. Review and approve all photographs to be used in all Chamber media. * Develop and maintain chambers crisis communication program. * Coordinate the integration of technology into the Chambers communications program, building the electronic" Chamber. Requirements Education: College graduate with a major in communications, journalism, marketing, advertising, public relations or related field.. Experience: A minimum of five years experience in the areas of writing, photography and desktop publishing; basic knowledge of print and broadcast production techniques. Special Skills &Abilities: * Must possess excellent organizational skills, be self-motivated and work well in a team environment. * Must possess clear, concise and proven communication skills in verbal, written and electronic media, to include website and social media oversight. * Should be customer service oriented, possess event organization skills, and have experience in budget preparation and line item analysis of expenditures. * Must understand the basic implications of branding, public relations, organizational image, governmental relations and message consistency.
