Overview:
Key point person for customer analytics (analyze/interpret customer data, develop thought provoking conclusions, and determine business implications) to senior leadership within Merchandising. Change agent responsible for providing customer analysis to influence strategic business decisions and drive sales. Acts as the primary support for senior Merchandise Managers and senior Planning Managers yet conducts work for their direct reports.
Key Accountabilities:
Conduct Advanced Customer Analytics (80%)
Continuously monitor the business by mining our customer data to surface business opportunities; Compile and present category key findings to senior leadership to drive change
Provide answers to support ad-hoc analysis requests from senior merchants using our customer database or our external partner's tool called The Shop
Work with senior merchants as necessary to help pull together the resources needed to create test and activation plans against specific initiatives, measuring & evaluating performance of initiatives during and following implementation
Act as a change agent establishing best practices for Macy's vendor collaboration initiative and supporting our merchants with an internal point of view on the same customer data
Liaise with other internal groups as necessary to create a cohesive merchandising strategy informed by deep customer insights
Identify Business Integration Opportunities into Core Merchandising Processes (20%)
""Operationalize"" and ""routinize"" the use of customer data reports to ensure adoption and change
Understand decision and activities in core merchandising processes to make recommendations on where customer data can be integrated to inform or provide a different performance lens
Develop best practices for how to further leverage our customer database and analyze customer data to inform traditional merchandising decisions
Participate in the development of a set of standard customer metrics necessary to provide a view of performance across businesses; serves as a tool to highlight strategic opportunities by business category or FOB (Family of Business) and the pipeline of ideas for deeper customer analytics
Provide thought leadership to senior Merchants on how to interpret standardized customer metric reports and how to use as clues for deeper analysis
Skills Summary:
4 year college degree required
Strong retail understanding or background required with solid understanding of merchandising processes
Minimum of 7 years work experience in apparel retail (Merchandise Marketing, Buying, Planning), management consulting (Strategy & operations), statistical analysis, marketing research, and/or advanced financial analysis (Retail industry research analyst)
Stellar analytical skills including the ability to run analysis, synthesize data, interpret results, draw thought provoking conclusions, and present comprehensive actionable business applications
Ability to partner with external and internal groups as necessary to provide merchants with comprehensive and thorough customer analysis to inform business strategies
Attention to detail and commitment to absolute accuracy and delivery of high quality work
Comfortable with informed debate and collaborative discussion
Strong active listening and interviewing skills; thrives in a fast-paced environment
Comfortable with ambiguity, creative thinking, and leading change
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills including the ability to manage a staff or internal clients
