The technical writer will write, edit, index, or revise a variety of technical, user documentation such as articles, reports, brochures, and/or manuals for a wide range of uses. Collaborate with programmers, engineers, and/or product management during design phase to gain an understanding of the product. Analyze requirements of projects to determine types of publications needed. Ensure accuracy and completeness of technical documentation. The technical writer must have a good working nowledge of the best practices for web design and will collaborate on the proper user interfaces for Company products and documentation. The technical writer will be responsible for our document management as well as ensure that we maintain proper Document Management System (DMS) procedures for revision control.
Essential Functions
Write, edit, and revise user documentation in various forms, paper, on-line and multi-media
Collaborate with development on proper web design user appearance and edit web screens for grammar, spelling and readability
Support marketing communications in creating and editing marketing and sales literature
Responsible for proposing and maintaining a DMS for Company
Write, edit, produce, and maintain on-line (internet/web-based) documentation
Support quality assurance efforts, assemble documentation for audits and ensure that documentation is compliant with federal regulations
Research and evaluate new documentation tools and methods; document and improve documentation processes
Maintain documentation standards and keep abreast of current information by associating with professional individuals or societies or by reviewing professional publications, newsletters, e-mail, and Web sites
Develop documentation project plans and timelines
Performs other duties as required
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Computer competence and the ability to use media effectively
Basic understanding of programming concepts, operating system and networking
Team player and consistent overachiever
Requires information search and research skills, questioning and feedback skills,
Solid project and time management skills, ability to prioritize and organize workflow
Commitment to quality
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
College degree required
Minimum 2 years experience in technical writing for a software company
Experience creating and maintaining web screens
Experience working with basic Web technology such as html
