Head of Marketing Communications

Blockbuster LLC is a leading global provider of rental and retail movies and games. The company provides customers with convenient access to media entertainment anywhere, any way they want it – whether in-store, by-mail, or digitally to their homes and mobile devices. With a highly recognized brand and a library of more than 125,000 movie and game titles, Blockbuster leverages its multichannel presence to serve millions of global customers annually.  Recently acquired by DISH Network in April 2011, Blockbuster will continue to operate as a wholly owned subsidiary and is headquartered north of Dallas, Texas.

 

Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer, the Head of Marketing Communications will be responsible for developing and implementing all marketing communications strategies and tactics employed by Blockbuster. These include: Advertising, Sales Collateral, Retail Support Materials, Existing Customer Messaging, Internet Messaging, Public Relations, Consumer Relations management/customer database, and Events. 

 

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Overall management and stewardship (from ideation to execution) of the Blockbuster brand.  Oversight and coordination of messaging across all prospect and customer touch points.
  • Oversee all CRM activity.  Develop and oversee implementation of marketing strategies and plans to retain existing customers.  Develop hypotheses based on data and analytics and formulate tests of offers, creative, tactics and segmentation to prove or disprove hypotheses and recommend action plans to improve profitable customer retention.  Work closely with analytics team to enhance current segmentation strategies. 
  • Improvement of both the effectiveness and the creative merit of all communication materials.
  • Development of concepts designed to fulfill clearly articulated strategic goals.
  • Management of multiple internal customers with varied requirements.
  • Management of multiple outside vendors with constant vigilance over costs.
  • Hands on execution of tactical, promotional and strategic consumer campaigns

 

To be successful in this role:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years marketing communications experience, with at least 5+ in a leadership role is required.  Must have proven “best-in-class” multichannel retailing or consumer goods experience.
  • Combination of client side and agency experience required.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the role of marketing communications within the overall corporate strategy.
  • Superior strength in developing original ideas and directing appropriate artistic executions.
  • Ability to articulate both strategic and creative concepts and present these in a compelling and persuasive manner.
  • Must be knowledgeable and conversant in design and production with different media, including on-line, print, TV and radio.
  • The ability to successfully manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
