Do you have a strong strategic and analytical sense, together with proven abilities to implement plans and lead projects?
BCAA is growing and we need an experienced Government Relations Specialist (Regular Full Time) to help us advance our member advocacy objectives and achieve our business goals. Key responsibilities of the Government Relations Specialist include identification and prioritization of member advocacy issues and initiatives; development and implementation of BCAA’s strategic member advocacy plans; liaison with government officials, and; expansion of the scope of BCAA’s advocacy activities to address issues relating to all BCAA business lines. Key Responsibilities Include:
1) Advocacy issues identifications and prioritization • Conduct research to ensure BCAA - has a thorough understanding of member and public opinion - is presenting current and in-depth information on its priority issues
2) Annual and long-term (five-year) BCAA Member Advocacy Plans • Assist in the development of annual and five-year Member Advocacy plans to achieve BCAA’s member advocacy objectives, in support of BCAA’s vision and corporate priorities
3) Implementation of annual plans • Creation and distribution of issue-specific position papers and BCAA’s annual Brief to Government
4) Raise awareness among members of BCAA’s advocacy efforts and results • Develop and implement overall member advocacy awareness plan
5) Member relations • Receive member feedback and respond to member inquiries on advocacy issues
Minimum Qualifications:
• Five years experience in a government relations role, or working in a political or government environment. • A university degree, preferably in Political Science, Journalism or Communications. • A solid understand of the principles and practices of government relations, and the political processes in B.C. • Excellent communications skills and experience in developing collaborative working relationships. • Superior research and analytical skills. • Advanced writing and editing skills, including experience writing for print and for the web • Computer skills, including knowledge of MS Word and Powerpoint, and the web for research and social networking. • Ability to travel between Vancouver and Victoria on a regular basis. Overnight travel within and outside B.C. might be required from time to time. • Experience in developing strategic tactical plans and writing reports.
