Responsibilities

Position Overview
As the director of competitive strategy in Symantec’s Norton consumer business, you will help us ensure that more consumers around the world have the online protection they need by helping us defend and grow market share.
You will lead the charge in developing the competitive strategy and helping to ensure that we stay several steps ahead of the competition by using every weapon we have in our arsenal.

Job Description
• Competitive intelligence: establish a competitive sensor network across the Norton business; act as the central repository for all competitive insight across Norton’s major categories and markets worldwide. Synthesize and correlate competitive trends and issues.
• Competitive analysis: for top competitors, complete in-depth technology, messaging, positioning, customer acquisition, sales and channel and financial (revenue mix, channel mix, bookings mix and growth, portfolio) analyses.
• SWOT analysis for each top competitor
• Competitive forecasting: based on analysis and trending by competitor and across the category, forecast major competitive moves.
• Competitive strategy development: based on analysis, design competitive strategies to defend and grow Norton market share in key markets and channels around the world in partnership with cross-functional team; model investments required and forecast return/business benefit
• Competitive tools: in support of competitive strategy, lead the development of appropriate competitive messaging and positioning, marketing and sales tools, etc., to help deliver forecasted market share growth for Norton; publish regular competitive updates and newsflashes to the Norton team.
• Competitive evangelist: act as a consultant to functional and regional teams building execution plans based on recommended competitive strategies.

Qualifications

• Intellectual curiosity; analytical skepticism; and cogent, persuasive expression – in person and in print – are foundational requirements of the role. 
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills.  Strong presentation skills and the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of executives, managers, etc.
• Strong,  independent thinker with solid analytical skills
• Proven ability to evaluate competitive situations and develop effective competitive strategies.
• Work experience must include preparing and delivering scenario analyses, strategy briefs, and presentations to executive leadership
• Strong organizational skills and very detail oriented
• Ability to interface well at all levels of the organization
• Must possess strong cross-functional teaming abilities and proven track record of success in a matrixed environment
• Demonstrated initiative, solid judgment and creativity
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
• Most likely to get offended when competitors claim product parity and it’s not true
• Likely to read  competitive performance data, blogs and forums
• Competition fuels your fire – losing to a competitor is not an option in your eyes
• People mistaking you for an engineer is considered a complement.
• Often reading competitive websites, product reviews, analyst reports, etc.
• Proud to be the technical, reality based conscious of a perception stretching marketing organization. A bit of a tech-geek at heart who clearly understands the importance of business strategy and marketing
• Minimum 8-10+ years' of relevant work experience required. Prior experience in the in competitive strategy strongly preferred   
• B.S. Required,  MBA preferred
