Position Summary


The Director of Product Management (DPM) is responsible for driving the strategic direction for a portfolio of products. They have management responsibilities for a team of Product Management professionals, but are ultimate responsibility for delivery and success of the products in their portfolio. They must help to formulate individual product plans into an integrated cross product strategy that includes both product release and roadmap planning as well as outbound product positioning and marketing plans. DPMs must show a demonstrated success of creating and managing successful product portfolios and the processes involved. This includes creating business cases, MRDs, PRDs, and the associated go-to-market planning.

At F5, DPMs are expected to be skilled at functioning and leading a matrix organization, creating a collaborative team that executes product strategy. The DPMs seek to manage the profit and loss of products in the portfolio and help to guide individual product managers and teams to ensure products are differentiated, profitable, and industry leading. DPMs must also be effective at leading other organizations across the company, including formulating the strategies and running projects that cross the broader F5 team. This DPM must be an effective leader and communicator across Marketing, BD, PD, Sales, Finance, and Legal teams.

DPMs must have a strong grasp of market dynamics, the competition, and customer needs. As the spokesperson for product portfolio the DPM must have proven leadership, negotiation and presentations skills capable of communicating with at the executive level with customers and with key industry analyst and press.

The Director of Product Management for Cloud and Virtualization must be able to work effectively across all product teams and a broad set of requirements to deliver solutions that maximize revenue and unify F5’s management story. This role also includes a specialized focus on third party management tools and an ability to partner effectively with 3rd party management companies in order to amplify f5’s pervasiveness within data center, server, and application management infrastructures.

 

Responsibilities

     

    • Responsible for upholding F5’s Business Code of Ethics and for promptly reporting violations of the Code or other company policies.
    • Create, drive, and communicate centralized management product line strategy, roadmaps and market positioning for F5's ADN management solutions. This Includes working effectively with all teams internal and external.
    • Develop F5's DC orchestration initiative with 3rd party server, network and application management solutions. Work to extend F5's solutions and integration tools with other management vendors. Support and extend f5's open iControl SDK / APIs capabilities across F5 products to driver a broader management ecosystem.
    • Lead direct reports to successfully execute product line/program strategy, Establish measurable goals and objectives that meet strategic goals while facilitating career growth and skill development
    • Serve as credible, engaging global F5 spokesperson to effectively influence all key constituents (including customers, partners, press, and analysts) and to establish F5 as a leader in the marketplace.
    • Collaborate with other Directors of Product Management to define and execute parallel product efforts that cohesively help F5 achieve its vital few goals
    • Lead ongoing analysis of product/program success against defined internal metrics and against other industry competitors; responsible for measuring and reporting ongoing end-user satisfaction with Tools/Technologies offerings

     

    Qualifications

       

      • BA/BS degree required, MBA a plus.
      • 10 plus years experience in product management and portfolio management role.
      • 10 plus years analyzing products, customers and market dynamics.
      • Strong understanding of data center and architectures and management solutions
      • Experience defining and launching new products in the management, automation and orchestration markets.
      • Strong knowledge market dynamics and customer segments (enterprise, service provider or )
      • Outstanding written and oral communication skills, with ability to articulate complex technology simply
      • Strong customer orientation with the ability to listen, organize and champion key initiatives and projects for product development
      • Flexible, self motivated, team player
      • Set strategic vision and translate into an actionable plan

         

      Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

         

        • Excellent leadership, negotiation & persuasion skills
        • Proven ability to lead through effective management and motivation of direct reports and extended team
        • Strong organizational, analytical and execution skills
        • Understanding of networking technologies. Experience in L4-L7 solutions a plus
        • Industry knowledge of system and data center management market
        • Experience in application and cloud management markets is a plus
        • Strong aptitude for determing the optimal way to position products in the market

         

        Physical Demands and Work Environment
