Overview:
The Development Manager, Applications Support will direct and manage day-to-day operations of the application support activities for STARS, a suite of content and data management systems for and . This person will work closely with business analysts, system engineers, and other production support teams within and . The team is responsible in providing technical support (level II) to ~800 internal users. While the operational needs are not 24x7, this role needs to be able to support the core 10x5 and other off-hours needs as necessary. The role requires the ability to provide rapid response to queues of incoming problem incidents, direct the team on prioritization, coordinate root cause analysis (RCA) efforts, assists with building up knowledge base articles and documentations. Experience with JIRA preferred. The candidate needs to be comfortable in providing technical support that includes diagnosis of issues, performance and overall health monitoring, data fixes and updates, and configuration changes within the following technology stack: Java, JBoss, Spring are primary components. This person has experience in the support of business critical web applications. This person has demonstrated the successful management of support team encompassing a total of 8-15 support engineers where resources may be either onshore or offshore. This person can take diverse/changing requirements and turn them first into actionable plans. This person understands the challenge of supporting demanding users in the dynamic retail world. This person is a creator motivated by the need to serve the business. The ideal candidate will have had experience in the high paced energy of startups as well as experience in the structured world of larger companies. Additional responsibilities include mentoring the team, establish a metrics and data-driven environment, tracking the current tasks of the team members, and escalating issues as needed. This person will need to have strong troubleshooting skills and be hands-on as needed. The successful applicant will work closely with Business Analysts, other Technical Leads, Software Engineers, Operations, and Quality Assurance Engineers in a highly collaborative environment to provide quality and timely support, while providing the necessary leadership to nurture team members career growth.
Key Accountabilities:
Own the STARS production support team.
Own the team's tools, processes, and quality / performance of the work produced.
Collaborate with Business Analysts and Development Team in providing technical support to the users.
Work with Production Support Engineers to manage workload and resolve roadblocks.
Ensure the team possesses the skills and tools necessary to routinely diagnose, troubleshoot, and in some cases, correct complex issues.
Own the relationships with key supporting teams.
Report critical issues to management effectively, timely, and with clarity.
Hands-on support and troubleshooting as needed.
Hands-on mentoring of the team.
Skills Summary:
BA/BS Degree in Computer Science/Engineering/MIS preferred or equivalent work experience.
Minimum of 7 years total experience as a Production Support engineer/manager in a web environment.
3 years management experience of guiding multiple teams with 8-15 members.
Able to effectively communicate across teams and roles - Written and Speaking skills.
JBOSS, Spring, Hibernate and Linux.
Strong SQL and DB skills (Oracle).
Highly developed organizational skills.
Experience with Agile AND RUP methodologies.
Ability and desire to thrive in a proactive, high-pressure, client-services, environment.
Strong triaging and crisis management skill.
Ability to clearly write technical specifications.
Web experience in Retail.
Experience with other Open source frameworks - eg. SEAM.
