The San Francisco office of Fleishman-Hillard has an immediate need for experienced, senior writers to join our growing writers’ group on a freelance basis. This seasoned group creates high-quality, high-level written materials for a wide variety of the firm’s clients. Writers in the group research, draft, revise and deliver client-ready materials to meet strategic client needs, including corporate messaging; speeches and other executive communications; op-eds and byline articles; white papers; employee and other internal communications; website and blog/social media copy and case studies.

Responsibilities Include:
* Collaborate with integrated project teams to develop, review and copy edit documents as outlined above, and others as assigned.
* Deliver materials on often tight deadlines with an emphasis on quality and consistent with both general writing standards (such as AP style) and client-specific styles.
* Work simultaneously on and prioritize among a number of projects, meeting and managing deadlines under the direction of and as assigned by the writers’ group leader.
* When appropriate, interact directly with the client to gather information, understand the needs of a given assignment and incorporate client feedback into the finished piece.
* Conduct any research or fact gathering needed to complete an assignment.
* Although these arefreelance opportunities, we are primarily interested in candidates who are willing and able to make along-term commitmentto devote significant time to the group -- the equivalent of at least half-time.
Qualifications:

* 8+ years experience as a journalist, speech writer, or public relations professional with an emphasis on executive communications or corporate positioning.
* Experience developing and editing a wide variety of written materials for diverse audiences with a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
* Excellent writing and editing skills that reflect 1) an ability to clarify and simplify complicated issues and diverse subject matter, and 2) versatility in tone and technique depending on the author and/or audience. (Knowledge of AP style is a must.).
* Subject matter expertise in one or more of the following: financial services, healthcare, public affairs, or technology.
* Proven expertise managing projects with multiple work streams, applying situational thinking and utilizing team resources effectively to deliver on program objectives.
* Experience building relationships and working with diverse stakeholders effectively, both internally and externally.
* Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, English, marketing, business or related field.
* Ability to illustrate a results-focused approach and commitment to going the extra mile for clients. Experience working directly with clients on day-to-day activities and ability to deal effectively with client demands a must.
* Energetic, self-starter and resourceful problem solver – gets things moving and keeps them on track. High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple ongoing activities.
* Good interpersonal skills, can work effectively in a team environment, negotiate approvals diplomatically, and maintain composure and quality under deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
