Communications Manager
Transforming Faces Worldwide (TFW) is an organization dedicated to improving access to treatment for cleft lip and palate in developing countries. We have helped over 6,000 children transform their lives through surgery and rehabilitation. TFW partners with local volunteer medical teams who provide multidisciplinary treatment to those in need. TFW is committed to building the capacity of local teams through training and professional development. TFW currently supports projects in Peru, Argentina, India, Thailand, Ghana, Ethiopia and China. Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the candidate will play an important part in developing and implementing Transforming Faces Worldwide's communications and programming activities, with support to fundraising operations. Ideally, we are looking for candidates with a strong background in communications in the international non-profit sector. This is a new position within the organization and we are seeking an individual who is a self-starter and can adapt to multiple roles within a small, dynamic organization. The Communication Manager will contribute to TFW's communications and programming in the following areas: External Outreach & Communications Responsible for the all electronic and written communication, including newsletters, media releases, project briefings and other promotional materials; Maintains TFW's website and develops interactive web pages about projects and success stories; Collaborates with general office administration. Program Capacity Building: Coordinates the production and dissemination of project's best practices; Facilitates communication among projects while promoting opportunities for professional development and cross-peer education. Special Events and Volunteer Management: Oversees all aspects of TFW events and acts as a main staff contact for event consultants, volunteers and interns; In collaboration with volunteer Fundraising Committee coordinates the event planning process, including goal setting, timelines and critical path. Fundraising Coordinates fundraising activities, including: mail appeals, grant proposals, corporate sponsorship appeals and other initiatives; Collaborates in the management of the donor information system; Provides fundraising presentations and represents TFW at events, conferences, and other networking opportunities. We are seeking qualified candidates with the following skills and experience: 3- 5 years experience in communications and/or programming in the non-profit sector; Bachelor's degree required in relevant area including: international development, communications, marketing, public relations or social sciences; Demonstrated interpersonal, leadership and communication skills, both verbal and written. An ability to conduct presentations, participate in networking opportunities and interact with the media; Strong facilitation skills and able to demonstrate a strong sense of leadership. The successful candidate must be prepared to develop and work within a new role; Strong computer skills, preferably including experience with website maintenance, CMS, and working with web designers; Familiar with the use of social networking tools; Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task; Ability to work independently, to prioritize and balance work-flow in an efficient manner, and, at the same time, to work as a team player; Cultural sensitivity and familiarity with international development either through work, life or volunteer experience is highly valued; Ability to travel internationally (2-3 weeks a year). The selected candidate will be offered a one-year contract with the possibility of extension. The position will involve a flexible 30-35 hour work week which is negotiable. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
