Communications Manager

| Success By 6 Peel is a regional collaborative with more than forty partners drawn from business, labour, education, recreation, health, human services and government. The goal of Success By 6 is to ensure that Children under 6 years of age in Peel thrive. The United Way of Peel Region holds the Success By 6 Peel license and has empowered the collaborative to lead the way in closing gaps in services and supports so our youngest children have the opportunity to develop to their full potential. Looking forward, Success by 6 along with the Peel Youth Violence Prevention Network, will become integral to the Peel Children and Youth Initiative, a new organization being formed in the Region of Peel to undertake community planning, community capacity building, research, service co-ordination, advocacy and other roles including providing a meaningful voice for children and youth for all children and youth 0 to 24 in Peel. This exciting initiative will provide Success By 6 staff with the opportunity to become part of a larger initiative with many opportunities for positive change and growth. Key Areas of Responsibility: The Communications Manager is responsible for the development of a comprehensive strategic and operational communication plan. This position develops and implements a variety of external and internal communications projects to a variety of stakeholder audiences. This initiative encompasses the public, private and charitable sectors. The Communications Manager works with a broad cross-sectoral group of individuals at varying levels within their organizations. Strong, professional relationships and teamwork are important in achieving objectives in this environment. Qualifications, Experience and Education: University Degree in a related discipline (e.g. Communications) or equivalent and at least 3 years communications and/or public relations experience. Competencies: - Excellent understanding of communications principles, strategies and methods. - Providing communications expertise to leadership, numerous committees and community initiatives. - Developing a multi-year, comprehensive marketing and communications plan that addresses both internal and external stakeholder needs ensuring alignment with the Success By 6 Peel strategic plan. - Managing external communications activities, including website, social media, print material and media relations. - Managing internal stakeholder communications activities. - Writing a variety of communications materials including media releases, business correspondence and speeches. - Managing production of marketing literature and materials including writing, design and printing. - Planning, executing and evaluating community initiatives outreach activities. - Planning and managing special events. - Contributing to the development of communications budgets - Managing communications budget - Coordinating work of consultants. - Measuring communications outcomes. Skills and Attributes: - Creativity and exceptional writing, editing and verbal skills. - Print production knowledge or experience. - Knowledge of or experience in developing and maintaining websites. - Demonstrated use/integration of social media. - Proficiency with MS Office software as well as Adobe Creative Suite 3, Acrobat Professional, content management systems (CMS). - Superior organizational, analytical, planning and problem-solving abilities. - Attention to detail and demonstrated ability to work under pressure. - A well developed professional manner and communication skills (both written/verbal) and a positive outlook. - Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a deadline-driven environment. - Highly motivated with proven ability to work cooperatively within a team environment as a team member or as a team leader. - Valid Ontario Drivers License and a vehicle available for work purposes. - Flexible hours are required, which may include early mornings and/or evening and weekends. - Understanding of and/or experience working in a multi-sector collaborative environment an asset.
