The Department of Anthropology at The Field Museum is pleased to announce the 2012 Boone Scholars Internship Program in East Asian Studies. This year we are seeking 1-2 highly qualified undergraduates or recent graduates to work on our East Asian collections. The internship period is between June 1st and September 14th, 2012. The length of the paid internship program will depend on the schedules of the interns and staff. Interns will be required to work a minimum of three days per week at the Museum. Boone interns will assist Field Museum collections staff in projects related to the long-term care of the museum's extensive East Asian collections. Potential duties include assistance in the re-housing, photographing, and cataloging of collections from Japan, China, and Korea, updating of digital databases relating to East Asian collections, and technological analysis of East Asian ceramics from the museum's collections.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates should be juniors, seniors, or recent graduates of academic institutions in Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, or Ohio, with at least a 3.0 GPA (4.0 scale) and a demonstrated, strong interest in East Asian studies (anthropology, art history, history, etc.). The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communications skills, strong organizational skills and attention to detail, ability to focus on tasks, a willingness to follow directions and procedures, and a demonstrated commitment to long-term care of anthropological collections. Prior collections and/or registration experience is a plus. Applicants must submit a short essay (about 2-3 pages) outlining their research interests and goals.
