As a communications manager your regular tasks will include: 1. Managing our external Web presence, ensuring that all content is up-to-date and accurately reflects the organization's strategic priorities and brand positioning 3. Developing communications, promotional and outreach material, for our annual conference, quarterly and annual reports as several examples The ideal candidate will have strong communications skills in English and French, and at least five years of work experience in public relations, communications and/or marketing, and a university degree in a directly related field. The job will be focussed on ensuring effective external communications in support of the United Way of Canada - Centraide Canada (UWC-CC) strategic priorities and brand positioning with the public, key stakeholders and communities in Canada. Reporting to the Vice-President of Marketing and Communications, the chosen candidate must be able to effectively manage multiple projects, sometimes under tight deadlines. He or she will work closely with other staff members in the national office, and will have a proven ability in preparing effective communications messaging, positioning statements and program material for intended audiences. He or she will be expected to demonstrate ongoing progress in his or her work, and to be an effective brand steward and champion of change. Primary duties: - Managing a national communications program, including public and media relations, stakeholder and government relations - Developing key public messages and media releases for UWC-CC - Working with the executive team on public announcements and media releases relating to the United Way - Centraide (UW-C) Movement - Responding to media inquiries - Keeping the UWC-CC external Web presence up-to-date, ensuring it accurately reflects the organization's strategic priorities and brand positioning, and is relevant for intended audiences - Raising public awareness about issues of strategic importance to UWC-CC and the UW-C Movement - Managing a marketing and communication program for the UWC-CC annual conference - preparing marketing, communications and promotional material, event management, working with keynote speakers and guests - Managing and/or contributing to quarterly and annual reports as well as publications and outreach material - As the UW-C brand positioning evolves, creating, managing and contributing to national marketing programs and initiatives Qualifications - A university degree in public relations, communications, marketing or a closely related field - A minimum of five years of directly related work experience - A minimum of two years of experience in media relations working at the national level - Expertise in public relations strategies and tactics; experience with public opinion research and public awareness campaigns is desirable - Demonstrated experience in managing an external Internet site and in Web communications - Excellent oral and written communications skills in English and French - Bilingualism - English and French is mandatory - Excellent research, analytical and problem solving skills - A strategic and creative thinker who excels at follow-through - Excellent project management skills and experience working in a fast-paced environment, sometimes under tight deadlines - Strong team player, who works in a facilitative manner to effectively influence others - Strong computer and technology skills, including proficiency with MS Word, Power Point, Excel and Share Point 2007
