Asst. Financial Development & Marketing Director

Looking to put your marketing, writing, project management, and people skills to work in a stimulating, creative environment? This position assists the Financial Development and Marketing Director in developing and executing strategies and activities in support of program and membership marketing, producing marketing collateral, as well as telling the YMCA story to the community at large. The Assistant Director of Financial Development and Marketing also assists in fund-raising activities for the YMCA, including annual support campaign, special events, and grant-writing. BA/BS in English, Marketing, Communications or related field required, as well as 1-3 years career experience. Must have excellent computer skills, writing ability, attention to detail, and the ability to build relationships with staff and volunteer teams.

Medical/Dental, 9 paid holidays, 20 days vacation, 8 days sick leave (may bank up to 90 sick days), 2 personal days, LT disability, Y membership and program discounts; 12% retirement, $7M annual budget.

GENERAL FUNCTION

Under the direction of the Director of Financial Development and Marketing and within the policies established by the Board of Directors, the Assistant Director of Financial Development and Marketing shall:

? Assist in developing and executing strategies and activities for the YMCA in support of program and membership marketing, as well as telling the YMCA story to the community at large.
? Assistance in fund-raising activities for the YMCA, including annual campaign planning, gift processing, database management, and prospect research.
? Assistance and project management of special fund-raising events (e.g., golf outing, circus).
? Build and sustain a positive image of the New Canaan YMCA within the community.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES

? Coordinate and execute all marketing and communications activities, including program brochures, website updates and e-newsletters.
? Develop and maintain marketing budget.
? Create and place print and online advertisements in support of program and membership marketing.
? Write and place press releases in support of program registrations and membership in print and online media. Identify media sources and maintain contact list.
? Attend Marketing and Development Committee meetings; work with committee and Director of Financial Development and Marketing to develop and execute strategies.
? Assist Financial Development and Marketing Director with fund-raising activities, including annual support campaign, capital campaigns, database management, grant writing, prospect research, and special events.

Requirements:

KNOW-HOW

? This position requires the ability to maintain harmonious relationships with staff, members, volunteers, and the general public.
? Minimum bachelor?s degree in Marketing, English, Communications, or related field of study. Minimum of 1-3 years of career experience.
? Superior written and oral communication skills, strong team ethic, and high attention to detail.
? Experience writing, editing, and proofreading in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
? Experience with media relations and writing press releases, for print and digital outlets.
? Technical competencies: Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher) essential. Desirable: Raiser?s Edge or other fundraising software, and graphic design experience using Quark, PageMaker, Photoshop, or comparable software.
? Creative and innovative spirit.
? Knowledge of YMCA history and mission, both locally and nationally. YMCA experience desirable.
