Description

Every time a consumer sees a package with a PepsiCo trademark on it, an impression is made. In the US, 50+ billion beverage packages are purchased each year bearing a PepsiCo trademark. On average, the graphics on these packages change 3000 times annually, either through brand redesign or on pack promotions. Any quality issue on a single change, through poor printing or incorrect copy can cost the system from hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars (depending on the scope of the change) as well as lost sales which cannot be quantified. The role of the Graphics Commercialization team is to execute these changes Graphics Commercialization team has seen a 10 fold increase in activity over the last 5 years. In addition to the recent explosion in innovation, the group has absorbed responsibility to facilitate international graphics changes, and the execution of new brands like SOBE, Pepsi Max and line extensions for Lipton Ice tea. In spite of this increase in work load, resources and team design have not changed accordingly Based on all of the above, the organization has identified a need to bring on an additional Graphics Commercialization Specialist who will enhance the current team's efforts and ensure packaging graphics commercialization support for all nciple Accountabilities:
- Support Senior Graphics Commercialization Manager as technical resource for print / commercialization support; includes on press support for printability, standard setting and printer performance
- Under supervision from Senior GC Manager, work with SSM Commercial teams, packaging suppliers, to develop a deep understanding of print processes across a variety of substrates; cans, cartons, labels, corrugated, cups as well as print methods i.e. off-set litho, flexography, roto-gravure, screen printing, etc.
- Develop in-depth knowledge of ink and coatings technologies
- Work closely with pre-press suppliers to develop understanding of processes , timelines and technical capabilities
- Support development of best in class graphics practices based on industry knowledge, technical expertise, and understanding of best practices in the Consumer Products space.
- Under the direction of the Senior GC Manager, participate in design evaluation / printability sessions with the Design Group, pre-press suppliers, packaging suppliers, and Marketing to assure understanding of the design elements and printer capabilities and use as the basis for developing execution plans for graphics commercialization
- Develop relationships with all packaging suppliers in order to track trends and proactively support issue identification and resolution. Develop remedial action plans, when required, with Senior GC Manager..
- Provide proofing support as required to maintain integrity of designs and legal requirements
- Ensure consistency across all designs and assure that all approved printer templates are utilized and specifications / tolerances are not violated
- Coordinate GC efforts to support on press activities utilizing the GC Standards procedures
- Support the efforts of the GC Graphics Managers to proactively work with creative agencies and internal graphics design group to insure new graphics meet system capability and can meet quality standards on an ongoing basis
- Work with Senior GC Manager and Print Quality Manager to support the commercializing of any appropriate measurement tools and processes to monitor, report and improve supplier delivered print quality
- Support efforts to develop enhanced methods to specify and measure print quality
- Under the direction of Senior Manager GC, liaison with Marketing to ensure expectations are clearly developed that meet new printing innovations.
- Work with the Senior Graphics Managers, pre-press suppliers, and packaging suppliers to understand new printing and /or proofing technologies that will deliver superior print quality and enhance printability results.
- Develop knowledge base of pre-press specifications including traps, spreads and other pre-press separation pe
- Provide support to GC graphics manager to ensure that all printability concerns are addressed on the 3000 changes that occur each year on these packages as well as improvements on the 100+ trademarks that are not changed
- Externally, work with the four prepress suppliers and up to 5 packaging suppliers spread across 25 producing sites to insure flawless execution and consistency in designs.
- Internally work with two commercial teams in SSM (Cans and Paperboard) at various levels in the organization, phics Commercialization Managers, the PCNA Design Group, Brand Marketing, R&D, Legal , Regulatory and bottlers on a broad scale to guide their understanding of print methods and capabilities
- Impact the print quality and accuracy on $1+Billion of beverage packaging annually


Requirements:


Skills and Experience BS/BA degree in engineering, science or graphics communication or technology Working knowledge of packaging printing and prepress services 5+ years in consumer goods industry. Strong interpersonal and communication skills Well developed organizational and collaboration skills Attention to detail Ability to manage / rebalance priorities based on demands of business. Experience in use of graphics design software and asset management software Experience with color management / measurement equipment and tools Ability to work independentlyKey challenges/Unique Aspects of the Role The incumbent must accomplish their objectives through influence of suppliers and internal partners. Both populations are large in scope Learning and understanding all of the critical packaging industries and associated print methods, material implications and ink science: Cans and paperboard wraps, cups and corrugated. Based on this understanding the incumbent must know the manufacturing operations for the suppliers, their printing capabilities and limitations This position supports all PCNA, PI and must collaborate with external and internal partners to assure success. This position will interface with Manager and Senior Manager level with PepsiCo and often senior manager levels within suppliers
